Pet Peeves
Why do people swerve out before making a turn. I suppose it is because they ran over a curb once. Now it is just a bad habit. Today, it happened twice. But this was not someone making a right turn where there is a curb. This was someone in the left turning lane at an intersection? I was in the left through lane and this person swerved to the right and came close to hitting me. Why? Habit? You are making a left turn in an intersection. There is no curb. Just stop it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pedants. This person knows what you mean otherwise how would they be able to correct you. So if you say a word, even if it technically is not a word, isn't it a word? If I make a sound and you understand it, I think it is a word. Like irregardless. (Actually, irregardless is in the dictionary.) Why do they do this? Ask them. I like to hit a pedant with "People who live in tents and ride porpoises." They love it. If you run across a pedant and they correct you, just insist that they are wrong and don't back down. So much fun.
Why are lawyers allowed to say things that are legally unacceptable? Then the judge says, "The jury will disregard blah, blah, blah." No they won't. They heard it. You can't unhear it. I think the solution is to have delayed audio. Put the jury in a sound proof area and give the judge enough time to edit these obvious attempts to wrongly influence the jury. I just don't understand why this is allowed to go on.
Actors who are in a movie where they have a romantic relationship and they hook up in real life and once the movie plays out they split up? Pah-lease. I guess it sells tickets. I don't remember any actors who were adversaries hooking up. I suppose they could have. You would not want Jodie and Anthony...well I suppose that is a bad example, but you get the idea. EWWWW!
Companies selling your info. I have noticed that it seems like every time I give a company my email and/or phone number, the number of spam emails and telemarketing calls jump. I am talking about what I would consider respectable companies. It is not my imagination. This has happened over and over again. After a while things die down because I don't respond to the calls and the emails and they give up and things get back to normal. Then I go and sign up for a coupon or a delivery for something I bought and it starts all over again like clock work. It is just too predictable to be a coincidence. I find it hard to believe that even if these companies don't sell my info to these spammers and telemarketers directly, they gotta know.
Someone encouraging me to, "Give it 110%". NO! Don't listen to these people. If it were possible to do, then wouldn't that be 100%? Giving it 110% will likely result in injury. 100% is all we are capable of doing. If you are doing something like riding any vehicle, you learn your limits by exceeding them. That is 101%.
Why do the big shots at companies get paid so much? It seems like you could get someone to run a company for a whole lot less than the 10's if not 100's of millions of dollars that they are paid while the little people are struggling. It just keeps getting worse and worse. Warren sees it. Blind greed. I have come to the conclusion that it must be because of who they know. Proving, once again, that it truly is who you know and not who you....although in some cases?
Update to big shots: 100's of millions of dollars? How about a big shot who is paid $55 billion? WHAT?
When is the US gonna get smart like Canada and stop the advertising of drugs. I obviously don't know but I heard it won't happen because the drug companies give so much money to the politicians. If that is true, politicians should refuse to accept money from them or it should be stopped. Shame! Shame! Shame! There are so many drug ads on TV. I really don't know how "free" TV would last without the ads? I saw an ad for a drug today. I don't usually watch them but something they said caught my attention. They said that one of the possible side effects could be a parasitic infection????? I rewound it and listened again. Sure enough. I don't even want to know!!!!! No wonder the drug companies tried to remove the requirement to state side effects in their ads. Saw a drug ad today that was a drug that you take with a drug you are already taking? Drug companies have run out of new diseases so what are they to do? Of course, lets make a drug that you take with the other drug you are taking? Really?
I am not going to say that unions are a good thing or a bad thing. I know people have their opinions but what I will say is that people don't join unions without a reason. Why would they? Plus, those that are not in a union would probably not be getting paid what they are or have the working conditions that they have were it not for the threat of unions. Yes, companies don't like unions. I understand. But think back, or search back, to see what things were like before unions. Some people complain about them when they go on strike. But it is sometimes a necessary evil. I know an engineer that worked for a major car company. One day the bosses decided that they were going to cut jobs based on performance reviews rather than base it on seniority. That didn't sit well with this guy because he had seniority and he had butted heads with the guy who writes the performance reviews...the company refused to budge...he threatened to unionize the engineers. The company budged. So even though he didn't belong to a union he benefited from the very idea of a union. Foreign car workers benefit from unions even though most of them are not unionized. In order to keep workers from joining they have to have decent pay and working conditions. Yes, some are highly educated or talented but that is not you...
