Take for instance Georgie Porgie. It is English in origin. I think of "Hey There Georgie Girl" and I wonder if Georgie is a boy as I usually see "him" portrayed? It would make more sense if Georgie was a girl wouldn't it? After all, "puddin and pie". Little girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice. Little boys are made of snips and snails and puppy dog tails. Georgie kissed the girls and made them cry. Oh my! But when those boys came out to play Georgie Porgie ran away?
Rock-a-bye Baby? Who hangs a cradle in the tree tops except maybe Tarzan or Jane. When the wind blows you better be scampering up there to get that cradle down or guess what? The bow breaks and down comes baby, cradle and all. (splat) What sicko thought it would be a good idea to sing this to a child? Do not try this at home.
Humpty Dumpty; I always see Humpty as an egg? I don't believe Humpty is an egg. I think Humpty is a promiscuous, frumpy princess. I mean; Sat on a wall? Better than everyone else. Had a great fall? That is where the promiscuous part comes in.
Turns out there was a prince in the neighboring kingdom and his and her parents thought it would be a good idea to bring the two kingdoms together through the marriage of the prince and the princess. One problem for the princess, his parents insisted that he marry a virgin. So out go all the kings horses and all the kings men to try to put Humpty together again to no avail. I guess they didn't know about sheep intestine.
What about Jack and Jill? It has always bothered me that Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pale of water. Who puts a well at the top of the hill? That seems like a whole lot of hole for nothing. Maybe the person who paid for the well didn't want to walk down the hill to fetch a pale of water. Anyway, it bothered me and I thought that maybe this wasn't really about an actual well. Maybe that was just a way to get jack and Jill to the top of the hill. Did Jack's broken crown really refer to his innocence? And Jill came tumbling after?. Why it wasn't simultaneous I don't know but maybe it was the culture at the time. However, some time ago I came across a web site in the UK asking for donations to preserve that very hill. I cannot find it anymore but I did come across a picture of a sign that says that the hill exists near a village called Kilmersdon. Juries out on this one. It is just so hard to know who to believe these days.
Little Red. I think back about how I just accepted that a wolf could swallow grannie whole and somehow grannie lived to tell about it. I mean, the whale thing at least had size going for it but...a wolf????? That wolf must have had a Babe the Blue Ox size going for it. But wait just a minute...that wolf was in grannies bed when Red got there. Sometin just don't add up. Ole Red must have been near blind.
Next up. Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater, Little Jack Horner (more like Little Jack Horny) and Little Miss Muffet.
(Not really. I am not going to get into what Peter - really "Peter" - was eating. Jack is definitely a pervert and very possibly a pedophile. And Little Miss Muffet, don't even get me started on that one. Her and her tuffet indeed.)
